Why doesn't motherhood come with days off?

I'm exhausted. Well, beyond exhausted, so much worse. It's no secret that Isaac isn't a good sleeper, but it's been especially bad during the month of September. Last night he set a record by waking up every thirty to forty-five minutes. Pretty cool, huh? He and I spend our nights nursing, bouncing, rocking, shushing, watching TV. Since Isaac was born I can tell what time it is by the traffic patterns on our street. This isn't really something to brag about but I thought I would share my new found talent. No need for a clock anymore. This morning I visited mothering.com so that I could commiserate with other mothers in the same situation. Thankfully, I'm not the only one with a baby who must be bounced constantly and sleep in a swing or bouncy seat. One mom said that after a year her son's bouncy seat literally broke late one night and she almost had a panic attack.

A couple days ago I was taking a shower and wow, it was an amazing shower, so good that I almost forgot I had kids...until my milk let down and I remembered I'd left my children unattended. Don't worry, they were fine.

Here are some pictures from the last couple weeks that I haven't been able to post. These include pictures from The Yankee Peddler Festival.

A stop at the ice-cream store...

Yikes!

Isaac attacking a cereal box...

Isabella's soccer game a couple weeks ago was quite comical or quite frustrating, whichever way you want to look at it. She was the one who was staring at the clouds while all of the other kids obediently kicked their soccer balls around the field. In an attempt to get Isabella involved, the coach asked if she wanted to be the fox in the game What Time is it Mr. Fox...Isabella quickly and adamantly responded, "No."

She asked for pigtails and as I started to put them in she said, "No mommy, I want them up high like Sarah puts them in Maya's hair!"

As my own attempt to control Isabella's wild hair, that she refuses to let me brush, I bought some headbands. Unfortunately she insists on wearing them like this...

Two very common Isaac faces...featuring bewilderment and surprise at his surroundings...

And to close, this is what Isabella said to me after we sat down for lunch a couple weeks ago:

"did you know our food goes in our mouth and down our belly, up our arms and in our shoulders and down our other arm and down our legs and in our foots and to our bottom so we can poop and pee?"

  1. (((((HUG))))) I wish I could make him sleep better for you :(

I think that the pictures of Walter holding Isaac are 2 of my favorites of all time. Isaac's expression in the second one is amazing!

I love the last quote ~ somebody's been teaching Isabella science! :)

  2. Oh one more thing! I think Isabella's hair looks cute with her headband in those pictures! It's the intentionally messy look (which you should not be at all surprised I like!).
