Enjoying

I think we have finally entered toddlerhood with Isaac. Until recently, we felt that the baby stage would never end, and though Isaac's daily care still requires more work than what most two and three year old kids require, we've made a breakthrough, and we are enjoying every minute of it.

He is walking, learning to run, is better at communicating despite being two years behind in speech, he is "exploring the world", in Isabella's words, and it is so much fun to watch.

We have a very unconventional sleep routine with Isaac. He falls asleep on the couch each night in our arms, while we watch Alias (the perfect show for soothing your child into dream land). After he is heavy with sleep, Walter and I stare at him, and I say, "Isn't he the cutest thing you've ever seen?" And I want to freeze him here and now--no one knows any better right now, it's still (mostly) acceptable that he won't be potty trained any time soon, kids don't make fun of him, adults don't pick up on his delays until after they've observed him for a little bit, he doesn't know he's different, and gosh darn it, the way he winds up his arms to attempt to run is so freaking adorable that it makes me laugh every time.

We are in a better place this year--emotionally, mentally, physically (since we are getting more reliable sleep, finally). We're enjoying where we are.

Exploring the world

He takes reading instructions, very seriously.
What's in the jar? A pet ant. Not my idea. It escaped and I expect to find baby ants any day.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Sierra

p.s. Despite writing that Isaac would not have a surgery this year, he had a very minor surgery yesterday morning to replace his ear tubes. All went well, and he is recovering beautifully.

I love how well your kids play together, and I'm so impressed at how much progress Isaac has made and continues to make!

  2. Dear Sierra,

Last Thursday Isaac, Isabella and I went for a walk around the neighborhood. It is almost a mile around the loop. We started with Isabella pushing Isaac in his car. We got about 2/3rds of the way and Isaac decided he wanted to walk. It was so sweet to see him holding Isabella's hand and walking down the street. Walking down the street seems like such a simple thing to do and expected but when I see him walking down the street I am still so happy it makes me cry. He would look at the pavement on the sidewalk and when the pavement changed he would reach down and touch it and the crack and see if it was okay. Isabella would say "Isaac it is find just walk on it" and he would. He trusts her. She moved sticks out of his way as if she were laying down the royal carpet for him to walk on. Many times she said to me "Gar, Isaac is just exploring the world". She is his constant cheerleader! It took us an hour to get around the loop and it was the very best hour ever!

    Love to you,

    Mom
